Tesofensine Capsules

What is Tesofensine

Tesofensine is a serotonin–noradrenaline–dopamine reuptake inhibitor from the phenyltropane family of drugs, which is being developed for the treatment of obesity.

Tesofensine functions primarily as an appetite suppressant, but possibly also acts by increasing resting energy expenditure. According to research, it also boasts other effects on fat oxidation, enhancing weight loss. Scientists say the tesofensine peptide has a modulating action on dopamine – often called the “happy hormone” – as it affects the pleasure sensation involved with food consumption.

How Does Tesofensine Work?

The tesofensine capsules help to suppress appetite and boost metabolic rate. Studies prove tesofensine’s effectiveness in treating obesity. One study found that participants all saw a noticeable difference when taking tesofensine, including an overall 5-10% reduction in body weight. Everything from body fat to waist and hip circumference was also reduced, as was BMI.

From what research shows so far, tesofensine results go beyond weight loss benefits. Some of its reported effects include improved cognition, memory, and learning, which is why the peptide is also studied for its effects on depression and cognitive decline.

Clinical Trials

Phase II trial results reported in The Lancet showed levels of weight loss over a 6-month period that were significantly greater than those achieved with any currently available drugs. Patients lost an average of 12.8 kg on the 1 mg dose, 11.3 kg on the 0.5 mg dose and 6.7 kg on the 0.25 mg dose, compared with a 2.2 kg loss in the placebo group.

What are the benefits?

Depression – according to research, tesofensine may be helpful for depression. Research demonstrates that stress can decrease BDNF levels in the brain – that is responsible for stimulating neuron growth and easing symptoms in those with depression and cognitive decline.

Pain Management – While research is limited on these effects, there is evidence to suggest that this anti-depressant may be able to help when it comes to managing pain.

What are the side effects?

In general, the safety profile of tesofensine is similar to currently approved medications for the treatment of obesity. The most commonly reported side effects in the obese population were dry mouth, headache, nausea, insomnia, diarrhea and constipation.
